Additional Information on Team Assignments
Submitted By Jessica Tufford on Thursday, September 3, 2020
Everyone registered as of September 1st, should have received an email today sharing the team assignments.  If you haven’t had a chance to read OWHA’s return to play you should check it out –

If you haven’t had a chance to read OWHA’s return to play you should check it out here – The article posted August 19th is what we have had to base our return to play.  Getting ice for the association in August and this early in September has meant a lot of extra work based on these guidelines.

OWHA Return to play guidance for parents and associations; (not complete)

  • No tryouts are permitted
  • Teams may be formed for administrative purposes only.
  • Players from teams will be assigned, by the association, to a Group and the association will determine the best approach for tiered structure based on the numbers and caliber of participants and will also work with other associations for the benefit of all players
  • When tryouts are permitted, there will be a process to adjust the administrative team rosters.
  • A player who registers with the OWHA is not eligible for registration or participation in other minor or junior hockey (Alliance, GTHL, HEO, HNO, NOHA, OHA, OHL, OMHA).
  • A player in an OWHA Group may not be a part of any other hockey participant group in Ontario.
  • The boundaries of the PHU will be a guideline for competition between teams

Based on the information shared by OWHA by September 1st, the board and coaches met last evening and split all registered participants into Teams.  We want to highlight that this wasn’t an easy task and we recognize some players and parents may feel they are not on the team they expected or hoped for.  Initial groups were created to facilitate getting girls back on the ice as quickly as possible.  As the season and guidance from the Public Health Unit (PHU) and OWHA evolves, teams are subject to change.

After we make it through the minimum 2 weeks development period and hopefully get approvals from OWHA to move to modified game play, we expect to play modified 3 on 3 games within our own age groups.  We are still working out the details and adjusting as we get more information from OWHA.  At this point OWHA hasn’t shared modified game play rules.  Since there are so many moving pieces and not typical game play/competition, we appreciate you understanding we’ve done the best we could for the team assignments.  When there are opportunities for adjustments we will advise.

If you went to the OWHA website, you may have noticed they posted new FAQ’s yesterday. Other issues we are dealing with is that coaching certification training that were scheduled in the spring were all cancelled.  We haven’t received an update on what OWHA is going to do with respect to their coaching requirements considering the clinics were cancelled and at this point there is only an opportunity for 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 hockey.

Board work is very rewarding and there are lots of opportunities for additional board members – so if you feel you have ideas and suggestions that could help the board – please consider putting your name forward – as we could use the help.

Note - we will be working over the next few evenings updating our websites with the latest team assignment information and upcoming ice assignments to Sept 20th.
