Registration and an Update on to Return to Play
Submitted By Jessica Tufford on Monday, August 24, 2020
A great deal of uncertainty still surrounds the 2020-21 season due to Covid-19. The CKGHA is working to offer opportunities for girls to play hockey within the guidelines provided by the OWHA and the CKPHU. Safety of our players, staff and parents remains our priority.

Registration and an Update on to Return to Play

A great deal of uncertainty still surrounds the 2020-21 season due to Covid-19. The CKGHA is working to offer opportunities for girls to play hockey within the guidelines provided by the OWHA and the CKPHU. Safety of our players, staff and parents remains our priority.

Overall Approach

  • The current plan has been developed based on the OWHA Return to Hockey Stage 3 modified programming released August 19, 2020.
  • The Chatham Kent Girls Hockey Association (CKGHA) is required to follow guidance from the OWHA and the CKPHU.  The most restrictive guidance will be followed.
  • Players registering for 2020-2021 must understand that this will not be a typical hockey season
  • Girls may only be registered with one hockey association. This includes OMHA, Alliance, other OWHA associations etc.
  • No tryouts are permitted at this time.
  • No league or tournament play is permitted at this time.

  • Registration with the CKGHA and initial payment is required prior to skating. More detail on the fee structure is below.
  • Girls that were registered with other OWHA associations may play for CKGHA for the 2020-2021 modified hockey season.  They must register with CKGHA using the link.  This will trigger a release in the system from their previous association and that association must approve – prior to play.
  • Players registered by September 1 will be placed into groups; girls registered after September 1 will be added into existing groups based on numbers and availability.
  • Registration will continue to be available to accommodate players as more arenas open and approved programming is modified with updated guidance.

Fee Structure and Refund Policy

  • Registration fees will be tiered and are subject to adjustment based on the Return to Hockey protocols and changes.
  • The initial tier of $200 will cover OWHA insurance, ice allocation and incidental expenses incurred by the CKGHA to offer programming.
  • As we approach November, the next tier will be finalized and announced. We anticipate the second tier to be approximately $200 for a total of $400.
    •  Amounts are estimates and will be adjusted based on OWHA return to play guidelines and activities. These fees are expected to cover roughly 1 hour of ice time/week per group from beginning of September to end of March, plus insurance for all players and staff
  •  Individual groups / teams may have additional fees based on the ability to play games (home ice and refs) and off ice activities such as dry land training.
  • Refunds will be issued based on missed ice times if:
    • The association is unable to continue to offer programming due to COVID-19 such as a return to Stage 2 or if ice becomes unavailable due to arena closure
    • Refunds will be based on the number of ice times missed.

Group training and modified competition

  • Return to Modified Practice and Play is for players registered for the 2020/2021 hockey season in an OWHA Approved Program and are in a Geographic Area that is in Ontario Government Stage 3.
  • The CKGHA will group registered players according to registration numbers, skill level, age, coach feedback etc. The goal is to have approximately 16-20 players per group to accommodate physical distancing requirements and indoor space limitations.
  • Groups will become part of Extended groups (max of 50 players, depending on health unit) to accommodate modified game play. No group can be part of more than one extended group.
  • At a point, still to be determined by OWHA, Groups and Extended groups will be allowed to participate in modified game play of 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 with no physical contact and updated rules.
  • Depending on the number of groups and players registered, we may need the assistance of additional coaches, trainers and volunteers. Requirements for COVID screening, ensuring protocols are adhered

Registering for the 2020-2021 season

Reminder: The 2020-2021 hockey season will not look as it has in the past. We will continue to modify programming as guidance changes

  • Registering with the CKGHA indicates the CKGHA association is where you intend to play for the 2020-2021 season.
  • All registrants will need to create an account and new player and parent profiles in the RAMP registration system with all required contact information prior to registering. If you pre-registered in the old system, you still need to create a new profile and register in the new system.
  • When you register please select package for “Tier 1 registration” for $200, first installment.
  • Waivers must be electronically signed when registering.

The registration form can be found here:

Please reach out to any board member with questions.

Thank you for your patience and your continued commitment to the CKGHA.
